The Carthusian monastery's artistic orientation around the voice, and the creative arts, has given a specific vocation to the monument, and has contributed to the celebrity of this unique site. The activities centered on the concept of the voice have highlighted the monument's assets, and its real acoustic interest. So, parallel to the work of organized events, every year the site welcomes artists in residence, of which several have lead to recordings in situ.

With regards to the creative arts, artists showing their works at the Chartreuse de Valbonne find a space conducive to inspiration and creation.

The association managing the monastery has demonstrated that its artistic choice is in harmony with the monument and offers it a solid base on which to create a veritable cultural center, with the help of institutional partners.

The cultural future of the monastery lies in the pursuit and development of its artistic presence. It will continue to work toward the the creation of conditions that encourage a meeting between the arts and the public at large, toward the development of a place of experimentation and creation open to all, as well as a place of exchange between artists of all backgrounds.

In parallel with its cultural policy, the association of the monastery acts in collaboration with the conservation of historic monuments in historical, archaeological, as well as anthropological research studies. It does so in order to examine the possibilities for restoration of this exceptional heritage and to have a better understanding of the human history which ever since the 13th century has never left the Carthusian monastery.
